For the first project of the semester, I want to challenge myself while also having fun. I think the zine is the perfect way to achieve that. My first thought was to create a story that isn't so obvious. I want the viewers to come up with many different interpretations to my piece. I will try to achieve this by using intentional, but a somewhat abstract and absurd collage of images. At first glance, the story and the art will appear as random, but the more time the viewer spends with the zine, the more the truth is revealed. I want to use colors and shapes to my advantage as well as lines and symmetry to create structure. More specifically, I want to tell the story of friend ship and how it sometimes doesn't last. I haven't figured out the characters in the story yet, but I'm thinking something non-human so more people can relate to the story rather than it being about the specific humans in the story. My characters will traverse through an abstract and colorful world filled with ambiguous shapes and recognizable objects and items. I want to capture a mixture of relatability while also maintaining the illusion of the unknown and unrecognizable. To me, this plan sounds very ambitious, but I hope that I can create something that matches my expectations. Overall, this project is very exciting to me as it is very new and open ended. I feel that I can use all of my creative ability without being limited.
