The article focuses on the emerging and critical need for visual literacy. With the drastic increase of digital imagery, visual literacy is ironically in a decline. The creation of the internet and other related technologies has made the access to imagery infinitely easier. Because of this, the need for visual literacy is at an all time high. The article states that it is extremely important for the youth to be educated on visual literacy as it will be a necessary skill to have in order to succeed in the work force and in other aspects of life. Some of the benefits of visual literacy that were stated in the article include the increase of all verbal skills, improved self expression, improved image of self and their relationship to the world. Most importantly, the skill of visual literacy in invaluable to understanding the new and changing technological world. The article also makes an emphasis on the importance on changing the way we teach our children. As of now, there is little to no concern about the lack of visual literacy in the classroom. It is pivotal that we change this mindset towards visual literacy and begin implementing some of our education power into visual literacy. Children need to develop these skills in order to succeed, and they are not receiving the correct education in order to succeed. As our world changes, it is extremely important that we prepare the new leaders of our world properly so that they can succeed for themselves and ultimately make the world a better place. Visual literacy need to be taught to the next generations to ensure our world can remain an intelligent and prospering society.
